Clean Code & TDD in the Age of AI: Guardrails for Development

AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and ChatGPT are dramatically increasing the speed at which developers can produce code. But speed without discipline introduces a new class of risk: fragile systems, hidden defects, and an erosion of intentional design. In this session, we’ll explore why Clean Code and Test-Driven Development (TDD) are no longer “nice-to-have craftsmanship practices,” but essential control mechanisms in an AI-accelerated development environment. You’ll see how AI changes the economics of software creation and why that makes code readability, testability, and design integrity more critical than ever. We’ll walk through practical examples demonstrating how TDD acts as a forcing function for better design, and how clean code principles create the constraints that AI itself lacks. Attendees will leave with a clear mental model and actionable patterns for using AI as a force multiplier, without sacrificing quality, maintainability, or long-term system health.
