Project Austin: Strengthening Pediatric Care Through EMS and Critical Access Hospital Partnerships
This conference session will explore the development and growth of Project Austin, an initiative designed to support local EMS agencies and critical access hospitals in the care of critically ill and medically complex pediatric patients. The session will examine the need for additional pediatric education and resources in rural and community healthcare settings, along with the collaborative partnerships developed to address these gaps. Participants will learn how Project Austin has helped strengthen pediatric assessment, clinical decision-making, stabilization, communication, and coordination of care through education, simulation, and ongoing support. The session will also highlight the impact of the project on local healthcare providers and discuss opportunities to expand similar programs to improve access to high-quality pediatric care across underserved communities.
