Lessons from Campus Green Funds across the Globe

What does it take to put sustainability funding directly in the hands of a campus community—and what happens when you do? This Learning Lab brings together practitioners and student leaders from three institutions across North America and Africa to answer that question through lived experience, honest reflection, and structured peer learning.

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco, TBD in the United States, and McGill University in Canada have each built community-driven sustainability funds that empower students, staff, and faculty to propose and implement real campus projects. While each fund reflects its own institutional culture and context, they share a common conviction: that sustainability is strengthened when the people who live and work on campus have the agency—and the resources—to change it.

This session moves beyond inspiration to instruction. Participants will hear what these funds actually look like in practice—how they are structured, governed, and sustained—and will engage in facilitated exercises to apply those models to their own contexts. Whether your institution is exploring a green fund for the first time or looking to evolve an existing program, you will leave with concrete tools and a peer network to support the work ahead.
