Today's families face daily stressors—from the difficulty of managing the many demands of juggling work and family life, to the day-to-day challenges of raising children. Helping children navigate screen time safely, bullying, arbitrating sibling arguments, and supporting children through school pressures are just some of the many difficulties parents face which have a negative impact on family positivity and mental wellbeing. Dr. Rosina McAlpine’s keynote, “Nurturing Family Positivity: Supporting Mental Health at Home,” has been developed to inspire, inform and resource family support professionals, educators, parents and caregivers with the insights and practical strategies necessary to foster a nurturing, mentally healthy home environment.

This session explores the importance of nurturing family mental wellbeing given the rising statistics on poor mental health in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. McAlpine will address key strategies for promoting family positivity for greater wellbeing for all family members. Participants will learn how to incorporate daily practices that uplift family dynamics, strengthen mental health, and build resilience to face life’s inevitable challenges.

Exploring the fundamentals of Mental Health: What is "mental health" is and it's impact on family life?

Understanding the Role of Emotions: Research on positive/negative emotions and how they impact physical and mental wellbeing.

Strategies for Positivity: Practical, actionable techniques to help each family member maintain optimism, even during tough times. These strategies help to reduce stress and foster a positive outlook.

Insights are gained into how to nurture loving relationships and engage in family life to bring more meaning, accomplishment and thriving.
