Adopting Internal Developer Portals (IDPs)—such as Backstage, Port.io, or Cortex—has become the standard for Platform Engineering initiatives. However, many organizations falter by focusing on the tool before structuring their information architecture. This talk argues that the foundation of a successful IDP is a robust, agnostic data model. We will present a reference architecture based on a Galaxy Schema. Attendees will learn how to link technology assets to their owners, structure real-world Scorecards, and understand why modeling platform concepts is the essential prerequisite for scalable adoption.
