OSDD: Open Source Driven Development
I rely on Open Source to improve myself day after day. Likewise, I think everyone can do the same. Reason why the theme of my talk is “Open Source Driven Development ”.
Most of the time, the expression “Driven Development” is associated with the words Test (Test Driven Development), Behavior (Behavior Driven Development),… to express a way to write code. With OSDD, the focus is not on the code but on people like you and me. It’s about how Open Source can help someone to get better and better.
How will I present this topic ? First, a simple definition of what is Open Source, what Driven Development means , what is OSDD. Then, share my experience , talk about what it takes, what motivates me to contribute, how I find the right balance between work and life, share challenges I overcome while contributing. It's not easy to find time but it’s worth it. I will also talk about some issues in the Open Source Industry. At the end, I will invite people to contribute even if they are not developers, emphasize on the fact that it’s better to be a producer than a consumer, share some benefits. We don’t have to be perfect to start but we have to start to be perfect, just start contributing.
Open Source is the backbone of software industry, every proprietary project uses at least one Open Source project. I did not yet receive any money from Open Source but I ve improved my skills which allowed me to travel to work in Portugal. My life is a testament to how Open Source triggers career growth.
