From Code to Docs: Using GitHub Copilot to Automate Business Central Documentation

Documentation is one of those essential tasks in Business Central development that everyone knows is important, but few enjoy maintaining.

Release notes, technical documentation, functional descriptions, and process changes are often created late, manually, or not at all.

In this session, we will explore how custom GitHub Copilot skills can be used to automate the generation of development and evolution documentation throughout the Business Central extension development lifecycle.

Instead of treating documentation as an afterthought, we’ll show how it can become a natural by‑product of the development process.

You’ll see practical examples of using Copilot skills to:

- Generate release notes directly from development changes
- Create general and technical documentation from AL code and commit history
- Maintain consistent documentation for ongoing evolutive work
- Produce not only Markdown files, but also fully formatted Word documents that follow corporate branding and templates

The session will focus on real‑world workflows, showing how AI can help teams save time, improve consistency, and keep documentation up to date, without changing the way developers work day to day.

The content is aimed at Business Central developers, team leads, and architects who want to improve documentation quality and reduce manual effort by leveraging GitHub Copilot and AI‑driven automation.
