Development teams typically consist of people with a very diverse motivation, experience and education.

This creates frustration when we collaborate.

- One developer writes tests for everything, another has never written a test.
- One developer heavily relies on coding with AI, another does not trust it.
- One developer is a super AL expert, another is still mainly coding in C/AL.
- One developer heavily relies on Code Analyzers, another has deactivated them to reduce the noise
- One developer has studied computer science at the university, another is self-taught.
- One developer writes simple pure functions, another has no problem with a 3000 lines function.

Yet we rarely talk about coding. Neither at conferences nor in the office.

Surprisingly few leaders of development teams know how to talk with the team about coding or know where to set the bar or the direction for the team.

Strong management is needed to arbitrate the dilemmas. Decisions might have to be explained to management or even sold to the customer. Does the customer even want to pay for it or should the customer not even be asked about it?

The session is for managers of dev teams and developers who feel this frustration.

General management, marketing, sales, people & culture, project managers, and support also have a stake in understanding what this means for their everyday contact with the customer.

If you are the customer, you definitely need to have an opinion about it and be able to explain it.

The idea for this talk origins in

- working with customers who are frustrated over discovering pure quality in development, yet did not mention quality with a single word in the statement of work
- talking with developers who are frustrated over their colleagues and their managers for not seeing the importance in adopting new ideas or tools
- interviews with hiring dev leads who have no clue about software development

Over the past three years, I have talked and written about subjects that encourages collaboration and adoption of modern software development principles.

Exactly out of respect for the developer who comes after me and the customer using my solutions.

This talk sums everything up. I will ask the developers and their managers to talk about coding. And what exactly to have an opinion about. I will also explain why everyone has a stake in this.
