Calculated Columns in Power BI are a powerful tool, but until today they were associated with major drawbacks:
- they had an inevitable cost in terms of memory, when in Import
- their values could not depend on the user (culture)
- RLS could not properly work on them as they were always computed at refresh time

User-Context-Aware Calculated Columns in Power BI break the above barriers and they give birth to the concept of Virtual Calculated Columns, computed on the fly at query time

This opens the door to new applications/advantages:
- personalized reports where Calculated Columns show values based on user culture
- size reduction of your model in Import without removing Calculated Columns
- a different approach vs OLS when you need to secure a column
