Structured Concurrency Fundamentals for Java Developers

Project Loom brings another preview for Structured Concurrency in Java 25, addressing fundamental challenges in concurrent programming that have plagued developers for years. This new paradigm shifts away from ad-hoc thread management toward a disciplined approach where concurrent tasks are organized into clear hierarchical structures.

We'll start by examining the limitations of traditional threading models and then explore how structured concurrency provides elegant solutions. You'll gain practical experience with StructuredTaskScope, learning to coordinate related tasks as atomic units of work.

In this talk, I'll cover the core concepts of structured concurrency and demonstrate how to best leverage it in combination with virtual threads for maximum effectiveness.
