Employee onboarding is one of the most critical and time‑consuming workflows in IT, and organizations often struggle with fragmented processes between HR, ITSM platforms, and identity systems. In this joint session, Geoff Ross and Nathan Hutchinson will showcase a complete end‑to‑end approach to automated employee account creation—starting from the HR or ITSM system and ending with fully provisioned user identities in Microsoft Entra ID.
Nathan will walk through everything required on the Entra side, including recommended directory configuration, role assignments, provisioning workflows, dynamic groups, and security considerations. He will demonstrate how to design Entra to receive new‑hire data in a consistent, automated, and auditable way.
Geoff will then show how to kick off the entire process using Power Automate. He’ll demonstrate how to capture employee data from an HR system or ITSM tool, transform and validate it, and then deliver it into Entra using secure APIs and automation best practices. This portion covers real‑world patterns for handling attributes such as department, job title, managers, licenses, group membership, and lifecycle triggers.
