Session
GitHub Management Using IssueOps
IssueOps transforms GitHub issues into structured service requests that can trigger automated workflows powered by bots while keeping repository administrators informed and in control.
In this session, you’ll learn the core concepts behind IssueOps and how it can streamline GitHub operations by turning common administrative tasks into simple, trackable issue-based processes. We’ll walk through the key components needed to design and implement your own IssueOps setup, including how to build automation that responds to requests and enforces governance.
Through a technical overview and practical examples, we’ll explore real-world use cases such as repository lifecycle management, user and team membership provisioning, and other routine administrative workflows. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of how to introduce IssueOps into your GitHub environment to reduce manual effort, improve transparency, and scale operations efficiently - all with a little help from GitHub Copilot.
Our organization was encouraged by Microsoft to explore the IssueOps approach as a way to automate and standardize GitHub organization management. In this session, I’ll share our practical experience adopting this model, including lessons learned, challenges, and outcomes.
The session touches on the following areas: DevOps practices, PowerShell automation, GitHub Actions, GitHub Copilot, and GitHub platform administration.
