Why Adaptable Founders Prefer Uncertain Markets
Most founders spend to reduce uncertainty. They raise to "de-risk", commission the research, build the forecast and wait for the fog to lift. In markets that are still forming, that is often delay dressed as discipline.
Building on Frank Knight's distinction between risk and uncertainty, and on real-options reasoning in strategy, this talk argues that where a market is still being decided, advantage goes to founders who build the capacity to change course rather than the capacity to predict. It shows why the same fog produces opposite fates, where adaptability pays, and what flexibility costs.
Founders and strategy leaders leave with one question to put to every major uncertainty: reduce it, or build adaptability around it, and how to tell which.
Format: keynote or talk, 30–45 minutes; workshop version available on request. Audience: founders, investors, executives and ecosystem builders.
