Using R in the health insurance sector - Lessons learned from automating reports
The talk will focus on the implementation of an automated report system using R within the AOK-Bundesverband the biggest health insurance network in Germany. The network provides reports to its regional members based on the insurance claims of 23 Mio. insured persons in a wide field of subjects. For my field of data analysis that means more than 500 Mio. new datasets each quarter.
R provides the techniques to combine easily analyzing the data and creating a PDF-Report with graphs and explanations beside an Excel-Output.
The main target group of the reports are professionals within in the network, who know the insurance background but have only little experience in data analysis. The reports therefore aim to supply them with a thorough analysis of the data and additional information beyond the usual scope.
Due to the quarterly update of the data and the wide scope of analyzes in each report, automatization was crucial to cope with the workload.
The talk will focus on the lessons learned on planning and implementing the reports.
