Sustainable Project Management - Building a Future Proof Approach for Lasting Success

As technological advancements accelerate, the depletion of natural resources poses significant challenges. With software influencing nearly every industry, it's crucial to ensure that software projects contribute positively to sustainability. Despite the growing emphasis on software development, the success rate of projects remains around 30%, and awareness of sustainable practices is limited. This talk will explore sustainable software project management, leveraging Earned Value Management (EVM) and Critical Chain Management (CCM) to introduce new metrics that enhance project efficiency and sustainability. We will share insights from our organizational case study, demonstrating the successful implementation of these principles and their impact on project outcomes and sustainability scores.
In an era where sustainability is paramount, organizations must adopt project management practices that minimize environmental impact while maximizing social and economic benefits. This talk will present a framework for Sustainable Project Management, emphasizing the synergy between CCM and EVM.
• Critical Chain Management (CCM): Focuses on optimizing resource allocation and managing project constraints to enhance efficiency and reduce resource consumption.
• Earned Value Management (EVM): Provides a comprehensive performance tracking system, integrating scope, cost, and schedule metrics to ensure projects remain on track and within budget.
By combining these methodologies, we create a balanced approach that empowers decision-makers to adjust project plans in real time, effectively reducing environmental impact while maintaining financial sustainability
