In 2019 a promising biotech company completed their first ever phase 3 trials, starting the race to prepare the product and company to commercialize. For the IT organization this meant adding over 40 application to the stack and onboarding over 50 employees in two years. Adding to the mix the compliance requirements of the Life Science industry and people used to the slow pace of Big Pharma, we had our work cut out for us. We did this by focusing intensively on building specific cultural behaviors in all employees to allow for cross-organizational collaboration, and eventually re-organizing ourselves into DevOps teams. This is the story of how Global IT survived two years of "we need everything at once" while maintaining speed, agility and cohesion.
