Automated Dependency Updates in Azure DevOps - who wouldn't want that?

Still updating NuGet packages manually? Letting dependencies drift until something breaks? There's a better way.

In this session, I'll show you how to automate dependency updates across your Azure DevOps repositories using Mend Renovate CLI. Renovate monitors your projects and creates pull requests for every outdated dependency, ready for you to review and merge.

It goes well beyond NuGet. Renovate tracks SDK versions in global.json, Docker base images, npm packages, Azure Artifacts feeds, Bicep modules, and pipeline task references. It can group related updates, like Microsoft.Extensions.* packages, into a single PR.

The configuration system is where it shines. Auto-merge patch updates that pass CI? Done. Schedule major bumps for Monday mornings? Easy. Pin transitive dependencies? One line of config.

In the live demo, I'll walk through the full onboarding: setting up a Renovate repository in Azure DevOps, creating the pipeline, configuring PATs, and dropping a renovate.json into existing repos. You'll see it discover dependencies and open its first PRs within minutes. I'll also show how a global config lets you manage policies for dozens of repos from one place.

I will share a link to my GitHub where all configs, pipelines, and presets can be found.
