Building an Active-Active HA Kubernetes Control Plane Cluster
So far, it has been an industry consensus to manage cloud-native resources with Kubernetes. As an end user in the cloud-native ecosystem, SAIC General Motors has been managing both traditional and cloud-native resources by operators since 2019. However, as the critical control plane, Kubernetes itself is prone to be a single point of failure in multi-data-center environments. Currently, the most common industry solution for Kubernetes HA is to manage multiple clusters with a single control plane, and there is still no HA solution for the single control plane itself. In this session, we will review how SAIC General Motors did in a Kubernetes control plane to manage different types of resources and how to implement a bi-directional Kubernetes control plane clusters that across dual data centers by cross-cluster version management mechanisms.
