Hacking Demystified: Unlocking the Secrets of the Dark Side

Hackers are the villains of the internet, the evil we all try to keep at bay. But to defeat our enemies, we must first understand them. What does hacking look like from the hacker’s perspective?

This session will walk you through the steps of a simple hack. With the EternalBlue exploit as a case study (used in malware attacks including WannaCry and Petya), we will look at how a hacker finds weaknesses in a computer, and step through the process of getting access to a machine. We will demonstrate this attack against a vulnerable Windows 7 machine and discuss the kinds of damage that can be done if remote access is gained to a network’s computers.

The aim of this talk is not to turn you into the world’s best security analyst, but to demystify hacking and give you a better idea of what hackers look for when trying to get their claws into your business. So, if your only knowledge of hacking is what you’ve seen in movies, come along and learn about the real thing!
