At this point it is safe to say that we've all likely been offered the shiny new tools, free snacks in the office, and a "culture of happiness." Yet, somehow, those promised productivity gains have remained elusive -- even while more and more companies push this idea that Developer Experience (DevEx) is Developer Productivity. And as a result, we've seen too much focus placed on output, and not enough on the core foundations that build a true, positive experience for developers.

In this talk, Jeremy will look at some real-world examples and some foundational truths to help get past those superficial initiatives and cultivate environments where developers can truly thrive – and ship good, quality code at the same time. He'll leave the buzzwords at home, and tackle how DevEx != DevProductivity, because a happy developer isn't always a productive one, but a productive developer is usually a happy one.

I want to get past the buzzwords and the hype, and instead bring some signal to all of the noise surrounding developer experience and productivity. I'll look at what actually helps developers do their best work and helps companies achieve their goals.
