Visual Calculations your DAX friendly interface and calculations
When we star working with DAX someone will always tell you that DAX is simple but is not easy. When you start making your business logic inside your semantic model you get lost with filter context, row context, the use of calculate and other concepts that overwhelm you.
In this session we are going to find out how can we have an easier approach to all our calculations, and use an Excel based approach using the Power BI's visual calculations.
We will do a live demonstration of how this feature can take your reporting calculation needs to a much more user-friendly approach when we talk about DAX.
To show off the practical and easy steps to a solid and efficient business logic, we will show case some practical scenarios like adding index columns for ordering, calculating cumulative sums based on visual selections and building a Pareto charts on the fly, all of this without the need to have different calculations for different sorting needs.
Off course this is not a perfect approach, we will also learn the limitations and common issues that we may encounter while implementing visual calculations.
In the end of this session, you will be able to understand the best use cases for the use of visual calculations and make DAX easy and simple.
