Getting good content from authors that don't write for the web

The majority of web content creators do not have a background in web. They are hard working people who are experts in their field of expertise - but they don't know much about writing for the web. How do you ensure good content on your pages when the authors have little knowledge on writing for the web, usability, or accessibility?

The EPA recently implemented Drupal as it's internal content management system. As the agency moved away from multiple organizational intranet sites into a unified, topic-based intranet, the majority of web content was restructured. Subject matter experts for the products and services were tasked with drafting all the content for these new sites.

Web is still considered "tech" to many employees- and the introduction of a content management system changed the focus on who has responsibility for websites. The power is now in the hands of content owners.

Learn how the EPA is working to ensure good web content through a review process that checks sites for best practices for web content - including usability and accessibility. In addition to governance and training, our Final Review checklist provides specific focus areas for content owners.
