Session

Sustain – ability : Growing our ability to sustain in the chaos.

We all can sustain. We all want to improve ourselves, our teams, our workplaces, our communities, and the world. Some are more interested in making the world a better place for themselves, and others may want to do it for the people of the planet.

What is very evident in our world is a climate challenge. You may or may not feel it, and 8 out of 10 team members are certainly thinking about it. The challenge is that no place exists to hold conversations about sustainability or climate. Even when the conversation is open, we have conflict. Not many people will be open to discussing how this impacts them emotionally and how these emotions can impact our workplace.

Difficult conversations that touch on survival and/or thriving are very hard to discuss in our groups, families, communities, and companies. Yet these conversations, if not had, can create more challenges within the person, and those around them can feel it. How do we, as Coaches, want to be with those conversations?
As well as these conversations are important to take, we also want to support the outcomes of these conversations. How can the team, organization, or individual take action?

Coaches are change agents and transformation specialists who help a team, department, or company deliver the desired outcomes and values. Sustainability for the planet and people is the next level of change that expands past a team or company to serve something that helps the greater good. As change agents, we understand that change is hard. This is where our change management and coaching skills have allowed us to help with the change.

What can we do as coaches to help transform the teams and organizations to support and act upon sustainability? What will be our stance on sustainability?

In this experiential workshop, we will explore different techniques to help with the conversation and action:
• Climate Circle from https://www.climateandmind.org/climate-circle
• Climate Hat Conversation using the five climate hats (Opportunity, Doomsday, Scientific, Moral, and Skeptical)
• Heart2Heart Conversations using differences and similarities from integral facilitation.
• Working Agreements for sustainability in our teams.

Outcomes
• Understand how to have a difficult conversation.
• How to hear and include all “climate voices.”
• Understand how to bring the conversation of sustainability into our workplace, community, or home.
• Understand how to include sustainability in the practices our teams use.

The preferred time of the workshop is 3 hours.

Will require a space where chairs can be moved into a smaller circles.

This was held at the GTA Mini Coach Retreat in Oct 2023 and is modified to bring in integral facilitation used in Joanne's Heart2Heart conversations events.
