The identity of a transfer student is assumed when starting at a second institution, but what does this identity mean, and how long do they consider themselves transfer students? These are the questions examined in a three-year study on the lifecycle of the transfer student identity. Our data shows information regarding belonging, institutional barriers preventing student success, and ultimately answers the question: When do transfer students stop being transfer students?
