Session

Treat work like a virus and teams like the immune system

What if our belief in cross-functional, stable teams is wrong?
What if our team structures don’t fit today’s business context and actually make developers’ lives harder?

This talk is a thought experiment based on 20+ years of experience with Agile and Business Agility. Again and again we see:

• Specialists isolated within “teams”
• Dependencies on other teams for key skills
• Little chance to grow the skills needed for the work at hand

Why? Because most Agile frameworks assume the team is the right unit. And yes, most of the time teams are great. But they’re not always the answer.

Our work happens in a VUCA/BANI world. We must turn uncertain ideas into real products fast. This requires structures that are flexible, adaptive, and dynamic.

What if we treated work like a virus? The moment it appears, we assemble the right mix of skills to tackle it, deliver or discard it quickly, then re-assess the team structure. New work? New team. Repeat.

In this session, Jose will share stories, experiments, and actionable ideas you can take back to your own context.
