Introduction to Ecosystem Architectural Styles
We’ve mastered System Architecture, yet our IT landscapes are becoming an unmanageable "Spaghetti". The problem isn't the systems themselves. It's that a lot of times architecture ends with the API layer of the system. In the rush to expose endpoints, we’ve neglected the "connective tissue" - the space between domain systems where true interoperability lives or dies.
In this session, we’ll move beyond the individual system and explore how we can approach working on an Ecosystem scale. I will reveal why, with scale, the most dangerous trade-off in modern architecture is the "missing abstraction layer" - a blind spot that leads to high operational costs and various bottlenecks.
You will learn how to apply a qualitative frame of reference to interactions between systems using Ecosystem Architectural Styles. We’ll define the specific responsibilities of the Integration Architect—a role crucial for managing complexity at scale. Stop leaving your integration to chance; it’s time to treat your ecosystem as a first-class architectural citizen.
Key Takeaways:
• The API Trap: Why a working API is only the peak of the interoperability iceberg.
• Ecosystem Architectural Styles: How to approach trade-off analysis on the space between systems.
• Governance at Scale: Defining the critical role of the Integration Architect in a modern organization.
