This workshop investigates the history of family engagement in education and local schools. Attendees will learn why dads have traditionally not been a part of family engagement activities and parent organizations such as PTA or PTO. We will also discuss why educators unintentionally have a negative view of fathers and father figures and why it is unwarranted. The workshop winds up with suggestions on how schools can change the environment by simply changing their messaging and offering simple plug and play programming that has proven to work in schools across the country for over 25 years.
