The end of environment variables: A new approach to flexibility
Tired of chasing variable values across apps, flows, and environments? In this session we show how to remove both local variables and environment variables by treating configuration as data, moving to a more centralized and secure solution, editable by a select group of users. We’ll walk through a reference architecture using Dataverse tables, least‑privilege roles, and a lightweight admin app that exposes feature flags, endpoints, and environment‑specific settings without redeploying solutions. You’ll see how this pattern streamlines ALM with pipelines, reduces merge conflicts, and makes smoke tests deterministic. We’ll compare performance, traceability, and failure modes vs. environment variables, and share implementation templates for Power Apps, Power Automate, and solution packaging. Leave with a repeatable approach that shortens release cycles and hands configuration control to those who own it.
