Agents in VSCode, powered by the AI Toolkit

This session is for anyone building agents that need to do more than just answer questions. Using the AI Toolkit in VSCode, I’ll walk through how to go from an idea to a working agent that can reason, take action, and connect to tools and data sources. Everything runs inside VSCode, so you stay in your flow without switching environments.

We’ll look at how to use models from Azure AI Foundry, but also how to use local models from Foundry local and open-source models. Switching between them is straightforward, and I’ll show what to pick depending on the context.

The AI Toolkit supports grounding with files, URLs, and structured data, and tool calling. You can inspect traces, test different model configurations, and use the playground to iterate quickly. It also includes support for agent memory and deploying agents to Azure directly from VSCode.

When it’s time to move from prototype to production, the Microsoft Agent Framework comes in. I’ll show how to take what you’ve built in the Toolkit and plug it into the framework to handle scale, reliability, and integration.

If you want to build agents that do more than just answer questions, this session should help. It’s hands-on, based on real examples, and focused on what’s possible right now. I’ll also cover what’s coming next.

Navigating the Azure AI seas

Let's check out the expansive world of Azure AI services! This session is designed to showcase the breadth of Azure’s AI capabilities and how they can be applied to various real-world scenarios. With mostly demos I'll get you situated in what's available and how to get started and how to continue with your AI use cases. This session will provide valuable insights into choosing the right Azure AI services for your needs.

We’ll explore the ocean of services, including the Cognitive services for vision, speech, and language understanding, as well as Azure OpenAI to utilize Generative AI and Azure Machine Learning for managing your Machine Learning project lifecycle. Through demos in Azure AI Foundry, you’ll see these services in action, solving common business challenges.

I'll let you sneak peek at some use cases where Azure AI has been used, providing you with real examples as inspiration. After this session, you'll have a better understanding of how Azure AI can enhance your applications and the confidence to start testing and implementing these services in your own projects.

Scaling new heights: Mastering AI with Enterprise Scale AI Factory

Almost every company is exploring AI these days, testing different use cases and uncovering its massive benefit. But let's face it, getting those AI projects from the experimental phase to full-blown production can feel like scaling mount Everest without a guide.

This session is your trusty Sherpa on this trip to the summit, helping you get to the real value from your projects! I'll introduce you to the open-source solution accelerator, Enterprise Scale AI Factory, and show you how it can speed up the process. Imagine having turnkey MLOps capabilities and other cool tools like AutoLake at your fingertips, all designed to give you a seamless plug-and-play experience for DataOps, MLOps, and GenAIOps in a large-scale environment.

You'll see how AI Factory combines the best of Microsoft accelerators and practices, like CAF and WAF, to create a smooth AI experience across development, testing, and production. We will look at the magic of dynamic resource management, where infrastructure resources, networking, and RBAC are tailored for each project team. Plus, you'll discover the beauty of template-based workflows that make managing AI projects a breeze.

Since 2019, AI Factory has been utilized by customers and partners, proving its robustness, scalability, and security. After this session, you'll know how to set up AI projects efficiently with an automated, template-driven approach, secure your AI infrastructure with private endpoints and advanced networking, and scale your AI capabilities effortlessly across multiple projects and environments.

Edge AI: Smarter IoT for Instant Insights

Ever wondered how your devices can think faster than the cloud?
In this session, we’ll fire up the engines on Edge AI and show how combining AI with IoT devices can transform them into smart, instant problem-solvers.

I’ll start by explaining what Edge AI means. Basically, it’s about placing intelligence closer to where data is created, whether it’s inside a factory machine or a surveillance camera. The result? Lightning-fast decisions without needing to send data up to the cloud.
Imagine a quality control sensor that flags a product defect the moment it occurs, or a drone that navigates and analyzes the exterior of a plane. We’ll walk through real-world use cases like these, where Edge AI has been implemented.

You’ll learn how technologies like Azure Foundry Local enables you to run tiny models on resource-constrained edge devices, and how to run ML models on a device on the shop floor. I’ll also share practical tips and tricks from the field.

Whether you’re working with industrial IoT or just curious about making gadgets smarter, this session will spark ideas on harnessing AI right where the action is. By the end, you’ll see that any IoT device, from a factory robot to your smart thermostat can get an IQ boost. Ready to bring intelligence to the edge? Join me and see how AI can make IoT instantly responsive!
