How to instrument your application with OpenTelemetry to capture Traces, Metrics, and Logs

OpenTelemetry is a CNCF incubating project formed through a merger of the OpenTracing and OpenCensus projects. OpenTelemetry will soon be the de-facto industry standard for instrumenting your applications and services.

In this hand-on workshop, we will first of all explain what "instrumenting" an application actually means. This seems to be a buzzword and I will shed some light into this concept. We will then do the actual implementation live in the workshop in a step-by-step approach and visualize the results in the New Relic observability platform as our telemetry backend.

The workshop will focus on showcasing the implementation in a couple of different programming languages including Java, .NET and others. We will also explore the AWS managed Lambda layer for OpenTelemetry which provides a plug and play user experience by automatically instrumenting a Lambda function.
