From Sidebar to Sub-Agents: A Live, Hands-On Intro to Building with AI Agents
AI-assisted development has come a long way from autocomplete - further than most of us are actually using it. Over the past year-plus of using these tools daily on real client work, I've watched them go from a glorified search box to agents that can build an entire feature while I review the result from my phone.
In this session, we'll make that whole climb live - no slides full of setup screens and "here's my results." We'll start from a completely empty project and build it up one step at a time: asking the assistant questions in the sidebar, letting it edit code, handing it tools and watching it test and fix its own work, teaching it your standards with custom skills, wiring up the guardrails that keep it honest, and finally turning a team of sub-agents loose to build a feature while you review the result.
Whether you've never opened an AI assistant, you've been poking at Copilot in VS Code but never touched a custom skill or a sub-agent, or you're already running agents daily and want to sharpen your setup, there's a place for you to jump in. You'll leave understanding how the pieces actually fit together - not just that they exist.
By the end, you'll have watched an empty project turn into a team of agents shipping a feature - and you'll know exactly how to start building your own.
