Building Confidence in Junior Developers: The Junior Dev's Perspective
Software engineering teams are built on a foundation of people sharing a variety of ideas and resources to come together, pool their knowledge, and build a product or service. But coming into this environment as a junior engineer can be really intimidating, especially when you have significantly less experience than some of your colleagues. Starting as a junior engineer, finding your feet and building confidence is not a one person job, and in those early years of your career, tickets are as much about building confidence as they are about building products.
A large portion of information online about building confidence in your early career falls into either the self-improvement, soft skills or corporate focused categories. But the topic of building technical confidence in junior engineers remains largely unexplored.
Together, we'll explore the impact of traditional education on an engineer's early career. We'll work through practical ticket based examples of what senior engineers can do to help build technical confidence in their more junior counterparts, and highlight a few key principles around finding opportunities in your current work flow to help empower your junior developers in the early stages of their career.
