10 Things I Hate About Quarkus
I used to enjoy the challenges of Java development. Setting up a database by hand, waiting for my tests to run, and especially staring at the screen while my application server slowly deployed a new version of my app… it was all part of the craft. Then Quarkus came along and ruined everything by being too fast, too helpful, and too enjoyable. Honestly, where’s the struggle?
In this talk, we’ll walk through the 10 things I “hate” about Quarkus, drawn from my own experience. We'll explore the truly infuriating ways it spoils developers: live reload that outruns your thoughts, dev services that steal your handcrafted configs, AI integration so good it tests itself, and more. From the Dev UI to eco-friendly footprints, from building monoliths to creating slick CLIs, you’ll see how Quarkus keeps taking away all my excuses.
By the end of this session, you’ll walk away with a smile, a deeper appreciation of Quarkus’ quirks, and maybe even a little resentment of just how easy it makes our lives. If you’ve ever been annoyed by tools that just work, you are not alone. Come laugh, learn, and leave ready to embrace the hate.
