Finding the Spark: A Career Reset Button.

▎ A few years ago, I hit a strange point in my career. On paper, everything looked fine: good projects, solid skills, a stable job. But inside, something had gone quiet. Writing code, which used to light me up, had become just... the job. I wasn't looking for a new language or a better framework. I was just trying to understand why I had stopped caring.

The turning point wasn't a technology. It was a speaker training session organized by the BeJUG. I showed up half-expecting to feel out of place, and instead found a room full of people who were welcoming, generous, and genuinely invested in helping each other get on stage. That afternoon reminded me that behind every line of code there's a story, an exchange, a connection. The thing I thought I'd lost was slowly coming back, and it had nothing to do with technology. It was the feeling of belonging.

This talk is about that rediscovery, and how meaning can be restored by contributing, sharing, and connecting. I'll share what pulled me back in, the small habits that rebuilt my motivation, and why giving back tends to return far more than you put in. You'll leave with a reason to write to that speaker, review that stranger's PR, or finally show up at your local JUG, because the cure for career apathy isn't a new language. It's a new relationship with your craft, your community, and yourself.
