The three layers of dashboard design

Become faster in designing your dashboards by using the three-layer method. Besides faster, your dashboards will have a more professional look and feel, and attuned to your key audience.
The design of dashboards can be split into three layers. Looking at your dashboard in that way, will help you tremendously with creating better dashboards. These are the layers we distinguish:
• the overall structure,
• a dashboard page/ tab,
• and each individual graph.
During this session we go swiftly through the 3 layers. Starting at the overall structure, we will work on building a wireframe to structure the information, getting to know our audience and work on incorporating your company style.
Then we quickly dive to the next layer: the dashboard tab. Where do you place the dashboard elements? Do you use navigation, and what filter type fits your dashboard?
We finish the session on the detailed level of graphs. Everyone has a ‘graph-vocabulary’: most people have 5 to 7 graphs that are top of mind. However, there are hundreds of graphs that can help you communicate your key message. We’ll discuss some graph specials, and focus on how you make your graph as effective as possible with some design choices.
