Turtles All the Way Down and Trauma All the Way Up
Your nervous system isn't equipped for the current pace of information and human interaction, which far exceeds what previous generations experienced. Many leadership frameworks mistakenly consider the system to be neutral, while it can often be a source of stress. I'm offering a new definition of resilience that emphasizes moving beyond merely recovering from adverse experiences like burnout or a crisis. Practical changes will be suggested to promote mental health, modify leadership approaches, and acknowledge that one’s nervous system might have never been stable.
For those involved in building systems, it is important to recognize that an unstable foundation affects everything built upon it. Emphasis will be put on understanding that safety (not effort) drives real healing because I approach this from the point of view of a bodyworker, Mental Health First Aid trainer, person who has dealt with trauma, as well as a parent, mentor, and coach to neurodiverse humans for over a decade.
