Open Source, Open Future: Community Delivered LLM Model for Poland and Europe
This session explores the development and impact of Bielik, the first large language model (LLM) for Polish, built entirely through community collaboration and open-source principles.
Bielik addresses the need for language models tailored to local languages, regulations, and business requirements, offering an alternative to global, closed solutions. Developed by over 3,000 contributors and supported by Polish supercomputing centers, Bielik is optimized for Polish language, culture, and sector-specific applications.
Its open-source license ensures transparency, data control, and compliance with European regulations, making it suitable for deployment in finance, law, administration, and public services.
Technical, organizational, and community aspects of Bielik’s creation, including data collection, model training, and integration with business and public sector systems.
Attendees will gain insights into the benefits of community-driven AI, from preserving linguistic diversity to enabling digital sovereignty and innovation across Europe.
The session will also discuss the broader European context, referencing initiatives like OpenEuroLLM, and outline practical steps for other regions to replicate this model. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how open, community-based AI can drive sustainable and inclusive digital transformation.
