UI Testing: Making quality accessible to the whole team

UI tests are often left to front-end specialists, as they appear tightly coupled to the DOM, selectors, and implementation details.
In modern architectures (microservices, micro-frontends, distributed systems) this separation quickly becomes a barrier to software quality.

Based on a real client experience, this talk approaches UI testing through the lens of craft: as a design practice in its own right, serving readability, robustness, and cooperation.
I will explore the common obstacles to writing effective end-to-end tests (multiple user journeys, frequent UI changes, and the difficulty of deciding what really needs to be tested) and show how test design, supported by architectural patterns, can make quality accessible to the whole team, including backend developers.

Finally, through a live demonstration with Playwright, I will show how a developer experience designed for testing lowers the barrier to adoption: expressive APIs, fast feedback, and built-in debugging tools.
I will also show you how these automated tests can also enhance accessibility.
