It is been a while since Big Data was the hottest buzzword in tech but it is still very much relevant, given the explosion of use-cases for Advanced Analytics, Machine Learning and AI. I would like to take you on a journey in time - from the initial inception of the foundational ideas more than a decade ago until now and beyond - to the state-of-the-art and to what I believe is The Next Big Thing in Big Data.

We are way past the early adoption phase as now even large enterprises invest in Hadoop, enticed with the vision of huge cost savings as well as better and faster business insights. However, experience taught me that with all that innovation you can not forget about the fundamental principles of software engineering (duh!) and common sense. Otherwise, you are doomed to sink all this saved money into solving the wrong problems.
