DAX Performance Optimization with the No IF Challenge

DAX, as the query language of Microsoft Power BI – and, more precisely, already established in SQL Server SSAS and Excel Power Pivot before Power BI –, is not a procedural but a declarative language. Typical constructs of a procedural programming language, such as conditions and branches, are also available in DAX, but because of their poor optimization by the query optimizer, they should be understood as an emergency solution or exception and not used as a basic framework. In this session we will learn coding patterns that avoid conditional programming to keep measure performance high.

This session is targeting the experienced DAX developer that is still struggling with getting performance first time right or are looking for inspiration to easily create scalable code. The idea is also great for training in coding dojos with colleagues or at conferences. Frequent visitors of the SQLBI blog or YouTube channel will love this session! Duration: 60 minutes, scalable, workshop possible, in German possible
