AI Hits Different - Music From the Machine Room
What happens when a sabbatical doesn't lead to a book, but to a full music album - with artificial intelligence as co-producer? This talk demonstrates how modern AI tools enable the production of a complete album within just a few weeks - from the first lyrics to arrangement and final mastering.
The applied language models generate lyrics and adopt stylistic characteristics through targeted in-context learning using original song texts. Suno AI contributes initial melodic ideas, Splitter AI separates vocals, drums, and instruments, while Basic Pitch converts audio signals into MIDI data. Additional tools like MidJourney, Sora, and AI-based mastering engines complete the workflow. The result is a production pipeline that balances creative control with efficient automation - far beyond simple one-click results.
As part of the talk, insights from music producer Ivo Moring (e.g. DJ Ötzi's "Ein Stern") complement the technical perspective with real-world experience from the professional mainstream music industry. His contributions highlight how established production processes work at major labels, what role AI is already playing today, and which challenges arise in that environment. Even when not attending in person, his industry viewpoint remains an integral part of the session.
This talk offers a hands-on look at tools, workflows, and creative potential in modern AI-assisted music production - with concrete takeaways for developers, creatives, and tech enthusiasts alike.
