What holds the world together - Transactions
Data is everything. Consistent data is more! A transaction is a concept, an attitude, a commitment to consistency. The awareness that the data will usually be around much longer than the applications that collect it.
I would therefore like to take a look with you at how a famous monolith works: How does an (Oracle) database really work? For the transactional handling of data, it has to keep a whole series of promises, most of which can be found in the acronym ACID. This presentation explains this acronym, of course. But also, how the DBMS implements all this technically.
The presentation provides know-how for both cloud and on-premises database systems and is aimed at developers who have always wanted to know why a database backend makes sense at all.
