Git'ing a Good Live Blog: Facebook's Watchman & git-auto-commit
Facebook's Watchman is a super-well tuned speed demons- make that daemon- with JSON & binary protocols for subscribing to watching for changes to files & projects on disk. It made quick work of an itch-to-scratch project I had, of wanting to make a git-auto committer I could use for source code & my blogging, to let me better capture & be able to scrub through a finer-grained history of what I was working on. It also helped me write a git-auto-push utility for pushing these changes up to a to-be-created continuous delivery blogging system. Let's take a quick look at Watchman, and how easy it is to watch the file-system world about us, & react to changes, by quickly touring Watchman, & then looking at these short git-auto-commit and git-auto-push projects.
