Data Catalog is a sensitive and controversial topic within organizations. Due to its cross-functional nature, it quickly absorbs the perpetual frustrations of the business that would like to know:
• Where are their data located?
• How are they transformed?
• How are they linked together?
• Who are the relevant owners and contacts?

And the project teams as well as developers who:
• Are reluctant to documentation
• Do not always see the value in exposing data
• Have different approaches to implementing a data project

It is one of the technically and politically complicated topics, similar to a Master Data Management (MDM) project, which combines organizational and information system aspects.
Additionally, it can be difficult to calculate return on investment (ROI) of such a project.

Since late 2021, Microsoft has been offering a technical solution based on Apache Atlas: Azure Purview. We will gather 2 complementary profiles around the table to discuss Data Catalog and Azure Purview implementation.
