Building Modern Application Platforms with GraphQL
GraphQL has moved from a query language to a foundational layer for modern application architectures.
In 2026, GraphQL is no longer just about replacing REST. It powers large-scale platforms, federated systems, AI-driven clients, and high-performance user experiences across web, mobile, and beyond.
In this talk, we’ll explore how GraphQL enables teams to build composable, evolvable APIs that align with how applications—and humans—actually think about data.
We’ll build a real GraphQL backend using ASP.NET Core and Hot Chocolate, covering not only queries and mutations, but also subscriptions, DataLoader, and production-ready patterns.
From there, we’ll look at what’s shaping GraphQL today: defer & stream, semantic nullability, OneOf input objects, schema design for scale, and performance strategies that matter in real systems.
Along the way, we’ll discuss best practices, architectural trade-offs, and common mistakes, so you leave knowing not just how GraphQL works, but how to use it effectively.
