Session
The IV Visual Ranking World Championship
An interactive gamification approach to impart know-how about different visualizations, from simple to very special. The audience rates visualizations themselves in a digital vote instead of being shown good practices up front. This involvement in the presentation creates a unique discussion with new insights and opinions. Finally, we can create an individual ranking together and practically demonstrate how effective knowledge transfer is through personal experience.
Extended Abstract:
Interactive gamification approach for imparting know-how about visualizations
The art of data visualization unfolds not only in the presentation of numbers, but also in the ability to weave stories, reveal insights, and influence decisions. But how can the knowledge of successful and unsuccessful visualizations be communicated in a way that is both educational and entertaining? This session presents an innovative, interactive gamification approach that actively engages the audience and enhances knowledge transfer through personal experience.
Session format:
Instead of presenting the visualizations and best practices frontally, the participants are integrated into the learning process. In a series of digital polls, the audience evaluates different visualizations, ranging from simple to highly complex examples. The results of these polls form the basis for a lively discussion in which different opinions, insights, and surprises come to light. Together, we create an individual ranking that reflects the diversity of perspectives and the practical relevance of successful visualization practices.
Objectives and methodology: The interactive approach not only promotes understanding, but also encourages critical engagement with the visualizations presented. The combination of digital tools, gamification elements and collaborative learning creates a dynamic learning environment in which theory and practice merge harmoniously. Participants experience first-hand how effective knowledge transfer can be when it is supported by personal experience and active participation.
Key takeaways:
Effective learning through experience: Participants experience how gamification can enhance the learning process.
Practical applications: Good and bad visualizations are made tangible and discussed in a practical context.
Gamification approaches: The session will demonstrate how playful elements can enhance motivation and understanding.
Good practices for visualizations: The audience will take away concrete recommendations that can be applied in various professional situations.
Comparison of simple and complex visualizations: The session illustrates how different levels of complexity affect different target groups.
