Modernizing institutional systems requires more than containerizing applications. At Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), we re-architected our infrastructure to run a diverse portfolio of legacy, stateless, and stateful workloads on Kubernetes — supporting critical campus-wide services.

This session provides a technical look into our infrastructure design, including cluster topology and high-availability architecture, persistent storage integration for databases and file-based systems, and backup and disaster recovery patterns. We will share the architectural trade-offs, migration challenges, and operational lessons learned while transforming traditional infrastructure into a production-grade Kubernetes platform.

By candidly sharing our experience, we aim to offer a practical reference model that can inspire and guide other higher education institutions exploring their own cloud-native transformation.
