For years, cloud architects learned how to design applications, infrastructure, identity, security and governance. Agentic AI changes the architecture — but it also changes the architect.

When AI systems can plan, call tools, generate code and operate across business processes, the role of developers, architects and consultants starts to shift. Technical knowledge remains essential, but skills such as system thinking, governance, verification, communication and human oversight become increasingly important.

Drawing from three decades in software architecture and my current work building nVibes, I will discuss how the transition from cloud engineering to agentic engineering changes everyday technical roles.

We will look at which skills remain valuable, which new ones are emerging, how coding agents change development workflows, and why architects may become even more important rather than less.
