Maturing your test automation strategy with the Design First approach
Test automation on a project often starts by writing test code for features, neglecting to design the architecture of the automated test solution from the wholistic point of view. While there is nothing wrong with starting that way, this is not be the most optimal approach when it comes to a complex integrated application. Fragmented test automation leaves the system under test vulnerable to coverage gaps on critical modules and connections in the future; and creates an impediment for scalability. I found it becoming a growing problem with the applications and systems under test getting more complex across the industry. The solution to the problem, no surprise here, needs to be also complex, wholistic and scalable. My team has learned, through trial and error, failure and success, how to use systems thinking to design an automation approach that focuses on architectural design and smart tooling for maintainable and scalable automated testing strategy.
This talk will demonstrate how you can apply system thinking to implement Design First approach and take your quality engineering to the next level of maturity.
