PL/SQL Packages Unpacked
PL/SQL is the queen of languages when it comes to developing with the Oracle Database, and packages are the jewels in the crown.
This session explores all the advantages of using packages in PL/SQL—we'll learn how to use these advantages, understand why packages are almost always better than standalone procedures (and when the opposite is true), and see many real-world use cases and examples.
This session aims foremost to provide beginners with a solid understanding and practical guidelines, but it may also offer new insights on PL/SQL packages to more experienced developers.
I have interviewed dozens of experienced PL/SQL developers over the years. One of the questions I always ask is "what are the benefits of packages over standalone procedures?", which, in my opinion, every PL/SQL developer (and especially experienced ones) must know well. However, most of the answers I get show that the knowledge about this important topic is quite bad. I want to fix this.
